According to current medical knowledge, unknown cause of miscarriage or more than one miscarriage may constitute a contradiction for using umbilical cord for the manufacture of a medicinal product.

Umbilical cord/MSC may be stored to be used only for the mother, the father or the child (potentially siblings, grandparents) whose results confirm previous Toxoplasma gondii infection. However, the final decision concerning the use of cells is made individually for each patient by the physician performing the medical procedure. NOTE: The administration of the cells into the cerebrospinal fluid is prohibited.

If we obtain the following results: IgM [negative] and IgG [equivocal or positive] from the mother’s blood at the PBKM laboratory, then the umbilical cord/MSC can be stored to be used only for the mother or child (siblings, grandparents) whose results confirm previous Toxoplasma gondii infection. If we obtain the following results: IgM [equivocal or positive] + IgG [equivocal or positive or negative] from the mother’s blood at the PBKM laboratory, the storage of umbilical cord fragments/MSC will not be possible (the above-mentioned biological material will be disqualified).

Additional testing for viral DNA will be performed during the manufacture of a medicinal product from umbilical cord cells. If the results of this test are positive, the umbilical cord/MSC may only be used for the mother, father or child (potentially siblings, grandparents) whose results will confirm a previous cytomegalovirus infection. In the case of a negative DNA test result, there are no restrictions of use.

If we obtain the following results: IgM [reactive/equivocal] and/or IgG [reactive/equivocal] from the mother’s blood at the PBKM laboratory, then additional testing for viral DNA will be performed during the manufacture of a medicinal product with cord cells. If the results of this test are positive, the umbilical cord/MSC may only be used for the mother, father or child (potentially siblings, grandparents) whose results will confirm a previous cytomegalovirus infection. In the case of a negative CMV DNA test result, there are no restrictions of use.

Collection and storage of umbilical cord blood and placental blood are possible. The transplantation center physician will decide whether it may be used for transplantation.

Positive or equivocal results for IgM antibodies may constitute a contraindication for the future use of acquired umbilical cord blood/placental blood. The decision is always made by the transplantation centre physician.

At the present state of knowledge, this disease is an indication for the use of umbilical cord cells. If you want to bank the umbilical cord tissue in order to quickly use it for family therapy, it will not be possible in the near future. Hashimoto's disease is not an indication for future use of umbilical cord or placental blood.

Anti-cytomegaly antibodies level test results are no contraindication for umbilical cord blood/placental blood collection.

Cord / placental blood can be obtained, but there is a risk that the material may be disqualified from further use in the future if the diagnosis is changed to a malignant tumor in the mother within 5 years of collection, due to the risk of transmitting neoplastic disease.

In accordance with FDA guidelines, a doctor from a transplant center may use such a transplant unit in cases of medical emergency (e.g. severe illness or imminent risk of death when no other suitable units are available) or for allogeneic use in first or second degree relatives, or for autologous use.
